Excel and Outlook being Microsquish products work very well together for 
the copy and paste thing.

What you can do in Excel is save the file as a Coma Separated Values 
(CVS) file.
In Thunderbird you can import the CVS file in to the address book.
If I remember right it should put them where you want them to be.

Once the email addresses are in a Thunderbird address book folder you 
can use "Shift" and/or "CTRL" to select the addresses

When the addresses are selected right click and select "Write" it will 
open a new message with the addresses in the "To:" field.
