Welcome! I only arrived here (Mpls) about 6 weeks ago myself. I'm
working (remotely) as a software engineer for a couple of clients in
California. One project involves porting Windows C++ code to linux, the
other involves creating a data management system using Python (among
other languages). Eventually I'd like to find local employment--and I'd
rather be coding in C--but hey, work is work!

I've been using linux for about 95% of the past three years, and this
year wrote a GTK-based IDE (integrated development environment) for a
rather obscure programming language (ESI Objects, a flavor of
object-oriented MUMPS) (if you're curious, it's at
http://geode.sourceforge.net =) ).

I sure wish I'd found an active LUG list like this when I first started
trying to figure stuff out! I look forward to seeing some questions I
can help folks out with, and expect to be asking some questions of my
own before long, once I get a chance to continue setting up a new server
using Debian (I've been mostly a RedHat guy so far, with some help from
apt-rpm).

Eric
