Hi all... I just got my dual Xeon system running, and I love it. I was wondering though if there are any applications that would benifit from compiling from source vs keeping the Mandrake pre-packaged ones. Mplayer comes to mind, and since the main cpu intensive task of this machine is dvdripping, maybe transcode might benifit from it. I was wondering if this matters all that much. And what other things can I do to take advantage of the dual cpu + hyperthreading (e.g. "make" vs "make -j")? Does anyone know some good sites on getting the most out of a smp system?
