I have been running SunOS/Solaris on at least one of my computers for
about 10 years now. Right now I'm still running Solaris 8. My reaction
to this new report on free Solaris 10 is that I still plan to move all of
my work, as much as possible anyway, to Linux in the near future.
Solaris is very solid, but I don't know why I would prefer it to Linux -
can anyone tell me?

For one, I have purchased computers and components from Sun Microsystems
in the past and they really priced them high. With Linux on a good Intel
system, you can get a lot more bang for the buck. They think that by
selling their OS for free, they will be able to sell more of their
servers. Well, I'll never buy another one.

I think they waited too long to do this and it's just too late for them.

Best,

Mike
