is it trying to start X-windows (graphical login)?  or just console
(text) login?

yeah, those were a heavy beast, but really just an oversized/overpriced
PC.  it's been a while but I think minicom on a linux laptop (or any other
vt100 capable terminal program) should work.  Try 9600-8N1.  I think
that's what the old HP terminals ran at.  If not try 9600-7E1.  I seem
to remember HP being "different".

that might be a firmware prompt.  You might try typing 'boot' or maybe
just 'b' to see if it will boot into a running OS.  again, it's been a
while...
