perhaps some X app trying to run and logging an error?
try checking $HOME/.xsession-errors or /var/log/XFree86.log (these are
from a Debian system so they might be different on Fedora).

Another thing would be try startx manually and redirect the log:

startx > $HOME/xlog 2>&1 &
