Thanks guys. I corrected my spelling and did the apt-gets Chad suggested 
and I'm getting 800x600. It's progress at least. Enough progress that I 
can let go of the X hurdle and move on to some serious Linux subjects. 
Who needs a GUI anyway? Geesh.
