I figured it out pretty quick.

Ok, I put that stuff in /etc/modules.conf (I didn't have anything there 
before), it had problems with lines 4, 5, and 6.  For line 4 it didn't 
like snd_device_gid, in line 5 it didn't like snd_mpu_port, and in line 
6 it didn't like device_gid.  #ALSA setting counts as line 1.
