When I started this Gentoo install I removed all the partitions from the laptop. It's a Compaq Armada 7770, it needs the setup partition to hold the date of the system. That would be the reason for the error I got telling me that a date was... can't remember now. So I'm running "emerge sync" now and will start the compile tomorrow.
