How can they tell if you had Linux installed on the computer and then wiped it out and put XP on it? In fact, as long as the hard drive isn't bad you could keep switching parts with the manufacturer without them knowing that you installed Linux. You might need to keep Windows around for running the stupid tests that they will ask you to run.
