Well, I think the real problem was with my web browser. I thought I had seen this problem both on my desktop and my laptop, but I may have been confused. After a while, I realized that my browser had been running for a few days. Upon reloading it, things are fine. I feel dumb for not restarting the browser sooner.. Anyway, perhaps the web browsers on my desktop and laptop ate some cookie of death that couldn't get purged off properly, and restarting the browser was the only way to fix it.
