Anyone who wants to really use the power of, and more importantly, be in *control* of their system, needs to understand the command line. Unlike with MS Windows, the UNIX command line is not a vestige.

Call the Linux/UNIX GUI "X" or "The X windowing system", but never "X windows". See the XFree86 homepage for the reasons behind this.
