eh?

i think you are mistaken, there is no need to reboot, there is no need to 
reload the file, the resolver  looks up the info from that file everytime 
you make a DNS request.

iirc the default sequence is /etc/hosts, NIS databases, the DNS servers as 
specified in /etc/resolv.conf

make a change and try it, you'll notice that it will work. Without 
rebooting.
