ChkRootKit (http://www.chkrootkit.org) will catch most of the big ones.

Other things to look into to are projects to catch them before they get you 
like:

Tripwire (http://www.tripwire.org)
Snort (http://www.snort.org)
Snorticus (http://snorticus.baysoft.net)
