Well, with anything related to the mouse cursor, a good thing to try is
setting the video driver to use a software cursor rather than a hardware
cursor.  The software cursor doesn't refresh as nicely, but it tends to
be more reliable.

In your "Device" section, you'd put a line like

  Option "SWcursor" "on"

Though I don't know if that goes in just one or both of the sections for
your system..
