It's not bad at all - http://www.sorgonet.com/linux/grubrestore/ PS. this is why I personally like to the install GRUB or LILO right to /boot & not the MBR of the drive. My personal favorite is to then use GAG http://sourceforge.net/projects/gag either on a floppy or mbr. Works great.
