Here's a "dirty" way I do it at work using cpio (unsecure I know):

find . -depth -print| cpio -o|remsh <server> "cd /dir; cpio -ivdm" > /tmp/cpio.l
og 2>&1

Or, even quicker:
find . -print|cpio -ocv|remsh <server> "umask 0; cd /<dir>; cpio -icvdum"


However, if someone is actively on the box, it won't pick up any new files.  If no one is logged in, and the box is idle it's "okay."
