What do you want linux to do for you? If you want to understand how stuff
works like automounting partitions and files sytem modification, you need
command line help. If you want everything to just happen without
understanding how or why, GUI is a good place to start.

For Redhat, I highly suggest Running Redhat Linux from O'Reilly.

www.tldp.org is always a good site, www.linux.org, and your local library.

Usually if you need help with anything, a post here and a case of beer is
all you need for front door tech support service.

It's been awhile so I forget how to get started the right way on linux. I
know stuff just because I broke things, re-installed dozens of times,
learned lots of things that didn't work, etc. This LUG and www.tldp.org
are probably my biggest resources when it comes to linux. You're at an
advantage because there's a ton of good books (O'Reilly publishing
most of them) about every subject in linux.
