Yes, I figured I was off base on this.
I guess it is used in a number of places that seem to make sense:
/dev/mouse -> /dev/psaux
/var/log -> /tmp/log (on an embedded system)

I'm not sure I appreciate the beauty of all the symlinks
in /lib or /usr/lib.
