I think you're confusing OpenSSH with that atrocity Windows uses to run
text-only applications in.

But if you're running X under cygwin, you get OpenSSH in a good ol' xterm
(or aterm, or eterm, or whatever).

I'm a lot happier with 'ssh -X -LL1138:localhost:8888 jethro at someserver'
than messing around with putty.
