I second VNC.  I love it.  I can work in the office or from home and keep 
work files open and just reconnect to the VNC session (same reason I love 
screen).

Personally, I prefer TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/) as it uses less 
bandwidth and has more compression-oriented options.
