went into /etc/hotplug/blacklist and added the module...then made sure to add the sound card to rc.modules and I'm good to go....

in the old days, one used to do:

cp -p /etc/modules.conf /etc/modules.conf.old
/sbin/depmod -a
/sbin/modprobe -c > /etc/modules.conf

then vi /etc/modules.conf and change the 3rd field to "off" for the
offending module; example:

alias <unwanted_module> off
