Actually, I use FreeBSD on all of my production servers.

With kernels or operating systems, it's not possible to just ``choose
another one''.  If there was a reasonable alternative, I would certainly
consider it.  But there's not, because none exist (not even OpenBSD).  With
MTAs, there is a reasonable alternative to sendmail.
