Personally, I would get a Thinkpad.  I have been using them for years and
have no complaints.   Not to mention I prefer to use the eraser head mouse
control and for awhile it seemed IBM was the only one including that on the
laptops in addition to the touch pad.   I also think that IBMs strong
support of Linux is an indicator of their commitment to making a Thinkpad
product that Linux would run on.   I have RH 7.2 running on my old Thinkpad
365 - P100 and it is rock solid.  I too am looking at laptops and have
pretty much decided on getting a Thinkpad.  You will pay more, but the
craftsmanship of these laptops is top notch.

Just my opinion though.
