They might be worth looking at.

I think both 'smbmount' and 'mount -t smbfs' use 
'mount.smbfs' or something close. I forget the 
specifics (if I knew them), but I think the only 
real differences are the options allowed.

I am not using the mount command at all. I am using smbmount.
smbmount //Computername/abackup /root/backup -o password=root's
What is the difference?  Have I didn't know you could use mount in the way
that you proposed.
