MacOS uses HFS, HFS+ for newer macs (think fat32) it stands for

HPFS is the High Performance File System which was supposed to replace the 
inferior FATFS when OS/2 replaced DOS...

things did not work so well for IBM when MS stole/built on the OS/2 
project code base (it was a joint venture between MS and IBM) and started 
NT, 

iirc NTFS and HPFS are(were) virtually identical except for a few minors
 changes that MS introduces with WinNT
