What do you want to run on them -- IRIX or Linux?  Linux would probably be a 
little adventurous, but possible.  I forget offhand, though, if it will run 
graphics hardware on other than the Indy -- how it was for a long time.  I 
seem to recall someone on debian-mips talking about video cards on and 
Indigo2, though.  Something to checkout. 

When you say diskless workstations, I guess I wonder what you want them to 
be doing.  If you want 'em to be a web browser, etc., then they're fine -- 
some things will be a little slow, but (if you get the graphics working) 
they render *really* fast -- at least my Indy does (similar graphics.) 

I'd say probably a thing to go for. 

Check the debian-mips pages, I guess.  Or run IRIX.
