One of the mailing lists I am on has a tip harvester.

You start a tip <tip> and end it </tip> and it gets culled and posted.

This could be beneficial when it comes to looking up info, or things
that are hard to do.

I am pretty sure that one can modify it so that it doesn't use mark-up
style brackets.

example:

tip::start {author:dangergelder; subject: linux newbies;}
Linux newbies need to be seen, but not heard.
tip::end

This also makes for an interesting comodity; people who ask too many
questions or favours need to maintain a high tip to posting ratio.

Which by that standard, has me owing about 235 tips.
