How is your access point set up?  On the setup page of mine, I've got:

WEP: Mandatory
Login: Disable

Under Advanced, go to Wireless, I've got:

Basic rates: 1-2-5.5-11
TX rates: 1-2-5.5-11
Preamble type: Long preamble
Authentication type: Both

If you'd like I could send you copies of my configuration files, to be 
thorough.
