Recompile the kernel and in "USB Support" menu check
   Preliminary USB device filesystem

If you have debian, usbmgr will mount
   /proc/bus/usb on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)
otherwise, do it manually or in /etc/fstab
