I have a theory... Sourceforge had ad space, and Microsoft had money. They were walking along and ran into each other, and Sourceforge said, 'You got your money in my bank account!' and Microsoft said 'You got our ad on your website!' and they both thought it tasted great together. Sarcasm aside, money is money, and it's also possible they just subscribe to an ad service that has some MS ads in their list.
