I think I had a very similar issue on Open office a while back... And IIRC, there's an awful lot of similar code SO 6.0 <-> OO 1.0 I found that I was having trouble typing in the apostrophes & double quotes too, they were being changed to '?'. IIRC there were a few auto-complete options I found, that were enabled by default that seemed to resolv the issue.
