The docs I have say:

smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DC1 -UAdministrator%<adminpassword>

would be appropriate.

Tried it.

smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DC1 -U DOMAIN/Administrator

Gives me the error.  So I gave it the finger.
