Akk...ignore me. It's just available that's borked right? no big deal! If status went to hell things get messy. You should even be able to rm /var/lib/dpkg/available. To update /var/lib/dpkg/available, select update in dselect. I just tested it myself by moving /var/lib/dpkg/available and running selecting update in dselect. apt doesn't use /var/lib/dpkg/available. Andrew S.
