I got a brand spanking new APC 1400VA Smart-UPS there for $85.  It works
great.

Also, don't they just use standard 12volt lead acid batteries?  If you
didn't care how it looked, couldn't you get a deep cycle marine battery and
wire it in for more capacity?  Maybe a yellow top Optima Gel Cell for $129?
