Just to add another counterexample, I burned myself a copy of the
LinuxCare BBC, and I used it around St. John's campus to boot the NT
workstations off of. With a few config files on my machine in my dorm
room, easily scp'able to the workstation, I could set up any workstation
on campus to be used as an X terminal to my box. I'd call that practical
use :)

Though I'm still working on figuring out if I can do the same thing here
at Mankato State...
