to start a wireless community type thing like this??  :)

And you could have a fairly extensive, low-cost, high speed
wireless/semi-wired network.  Use cable modem and DSL connections for access
to the internet.  Just broadcast a default route into the network from each
internet connection point, and people connecting to the network will
generally take the logically closest way out onto the net.  You'd have to
set up some sort of masquerading/NAT scheme, but that should be no big deal.

Keep decent logs/snort database to catch the naughty people, hopefully
before your ISP finds out.
