It did not contain BIOS code per se, just for some reason Compaq decided to put its setup on the HD instead of in EPROM, as would a normal manufacturer. They were not consistent in this; I have two Compaq machines here that have the CMOS setup in ROM.. one is a notebook, the other is a DeskPro desktop.
