I am positive, you can do it. I'm not _absolutely_ sure Gimp can
do it (page fault), but pretty sure.

Netscape 4.x does not support PNG transparency, though 
it does support PNG.

Netscape 6.x, Opera 5, and IE5 do support transparent PNGs 
under Win*.
