My /etc/sysconfig/mouse (Sony Vaio) has only: 

FULLNAME="ALPS - GlidePoint (PS/2)"
MOUSETYPE="ps/2"
XEMU3="yes"
XMOUSETYPE="GlidePointPS/2"

Try removing the DEVICE line, which appears to be line 5. 

Also check Ken Harker's page at www.linux-laptop.net for your particular
laptop model. There may be useful tips.
