With cable, are you on Time Warner or Media One? Time Warner seems to be a bit more lax with policies. We have yet to hit a limit on the number of dynamic IPs we can pull down at a time. On the other hand, their dhcp server has been VERY flaky, I'd estimate a 25% uptime. (75% of the time we get an IP no problem, 25% of the time there are issues.) Usually when we have such issues we have to pull the plug on the cable modem and plug it back in. Recently we just gave up on it and went from our public ip's (which were still firewalled, cool stuff dieman) to private IPs. At least our little firewall will always give us an IP. Now we only have to worry about connectivity if the OpenBSD firewall crashes. (Which it does from time to time due to running a devel kernel on it) MediaOne is a bit more strict. You have to call in with you MAC address before you can get a DHCP address (maybe they do this via the web now, dieman?) and you have to pay more money to get more than one IP, which isn't a big deal if you're going to firewall yourself off from the rest of the world anyway. RoadRunner's service is maturing, so they've been chaing routing every now and then. Mostly due to AT&T buying MediaOne.
