The modules are probably being loaded just fine, although force-loading
the module may prevent the message from repeating over and over
(otherwise, the module will load, then unload after a certain amount of
time).

Gnome has (or did have) a program that would watch the CD-ROM drive and
see if anything had been loaded.  Digging around in the Gnome control
panel would probably give you an option to disable automatic
loading/playing of CDs.
