Ooh ooh...this was a test question in the Linux class I teach...about 1/2
got it right.

reboot the machine
at the LILO: prompt, type "linux 1"
it will boot in single user mode, not passwd needed
when you get a prompt, type passwd and enter the new passwd
>>>important step...remember the new passwd
/sbin/shutdown -r now
login as root with new passwd
