If you're not planning on using postgresql and you don't have any data in
it, the simplest thing to do would be to get rid of it. apt-get remove
package. apt-get --purge remove package will completely purge the package
(remove databases, config files, etc.) A standard remove usually leaves the
configs and other info behind. 

If anything trying to remove the package will tell you what depends on it.
Maybe you want to keep it around after all.

The other option would be to go into dselect and put the package on hold (=)
and try apt-get dselect-upgrade. apt will respect any holds, and most
everything will move to the new version. You should still clean up those odd
depends and do a full dist-upgrade.
