Take a look at RealPlayer8, its pretty darn close to the quality of
quicktime, and it isn't platform lockin.  Its even got players for Unix.

Plus, the tools are all nifty command line for moving from your edited
video to rp8 compressed. (if your using unix, otherwise, theres a nifty
windows GUI)

SIML looks cool too.
