It could be a buggy sound driver, or your sound driver might not be
initlized properly. Double check the setting on your modules.

Try mpg123 and see if it skips, see if xmms skips. Kill esd. If it doesn't
skip in a differen't player the culprit is your player. If it does skip in
other players it's likely a driver issue. 

The sound card you have is fairly well supported. If it's a driver issue
it's probally because your driver module is not getting the correct DMA
channel or IRQ. 

cat /proc/inturrputs
cat /proc/dma

See what shows up. Check /etc/modules.conf and see if the settings match.
Hmmm, can't think of much else.
