I've been playing a bit with KDE2. All I can say right now is...woah!
They've done a great job so far. Konqueror is great, and supports netscaps
plugins (haven't actually tested it yet, but it detected flash and real
audio, as well as the JRE installed on this system)
The interface is still single click, but they've cleaned it up alot! When
you click an icon or link, there is just enough visual feedback that you
know you've clicked the stupid icon. They kinda went with web-ish desktop,
but it's much better and cleaner than MS's. Crazy part is, when you change a
theme, KDE reconfigures to modify GTK and Netscape to match. Was really odd
when a GTK app fireup with the Solaris-CDE theme with the Desert Red color
scheme. (Same coler scheme gets applied to netscape)
Overall, it seems alot more polished than GNOME. Can't wait to try the
offical release. It's still going to take quite a bit to pull me away from
GNOME though. (Then again, given the rate at which KDE releases new
versions, perhaps I'll run it until a new GNOME is released. hehe.)
BTW, Koffice is included in the beta, but not in the debs from kde.tdyc.com.
Compiling is fun anyway...
