Well, I know there are tools for dealing with this (made with laptop
users in mind.) Check out the netenv package.
Other things you could try:
set up your own dhcp server
aliais the interface
eth0: dhcp
eth0:1: set statically for your home network.
Personally, I'd check out netenv, then look at setting up your own DHCP
server.
