Debian's GDM install (from helix) has the option of a 'Debian' session that uses the standard /etc/X11/Xsession (which allows for a user to have a .xsession). But then, RedHat made a lot of GNOME hacks I don't understand...

Does it for .Xclients? That would follow the XDM behaviour.
