wvdial needs no X and will mostly configure itself. After you run wvdialconf,
it'll make a generic config file which you promptly edit to add in your dial
up number, username, and pass. If you have a static, it should automagiacally
be assigned when you log on.

Truth be told I haven't used ppp in a year or so, so YMMV.
